![]() Harlem: 2167 Frederick Douglass Blvd, New York, NY 10026. Levain Bakery: Upper West Side: 167 W 74th St, New York, NY 10023. So next time you pay a visit to Levain Bakery, make sure to grab a few of these goodies, as well as the chocolate cookies. The raspberry jam is the perfect filling as it’s not too sweet and tastes homemade. I fell in love with the wonderfully soft and pillowy bread, which doesn’t feel heavy on the stomach at all, and is actually (believe it or not) low in fat and sugar. Step 3 In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking soda. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition and scraping the bowl as needed. Add oats and mix until thoroughly incorporated. Step 2 In the bowl of an electric mixer (or using a hand mixer), beat together the butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until well combined. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then mix in vanilla. The owners of Levain decided to create their own version after eating them in Florence, Italy. Beat butter, 1 cup white sugar, and brown sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer until creamy, at least 2 to 3 minutes. Similar to the Italian doughnut, the Bomboloni, Levain’s Bomboloncini is baked, not fried, and contains a seedless raspberry jam and is dusted with powdered sugar. ![]() My latest addiction (I had two in one week!) is the Bomboloncini ($2.25). Full of plump blueberries, this muffin is to die for, with a delectable crunch thanks to the sanding sugar on top. ![]() These regularly sell out, so be sure to grab one early in the day. While you’re there, don’t skip the Blueberry Muffin ($3). The Oatmeal Raisin is rich and buttery, with the signature chewy center and is full of juicy raisins. Big mistake on my part! This cookie really holds its own, alongside the chocolate versions (there’s also a Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip, and a Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip). Add brown and granulated sugars, then beat until fluffy, about 2 minutes. Using an electric mixer, beat butter in a large bowl until creamy. But for whatever reason, I’d never tried the Oatmeal Raisin cookie ($4). Butter two large cookie sheets, or line them with parchment paper or reusable silicone liners. Ever since I moved to New York City back in 2012, I’ve been enjoying Levain’s famous monster cookies.
